Confess, Fletch

If there are thoughts, ideas or plans to continue this series - based on opening weekend, any plans may be scratched - this film proves the potential to create something as quality as the original Fletch (1985). The very dry, almost non-existent humor is still there, Hamm is a good Fletch and with has a clear and strong potential for improvement, but two elements are missing: it's lacking an energy, which I think is easily remedied with a more exciting plot than art heists. 2/ Setting this and filming in Boston was a big mistake in my opinion and added to the lack of energy. 3/ It needs a HOOK, which the first film did so wisely via music, with Harold Faltermeyer's fantastic score and theme for Fletch. It added a LOT to Chevy's performance, and to the energy of the film. But overall this is a promising start, if only people were paying attention. They say "they don't make 'em like they used to," when it comes to light, fun 80s comedies, but they delivered one here for the most part. Recommended.
