Final Destination: Bloodlines

Screened at Regal Cinemas, Rancho Mirage, California.
There aren't many horror franchises these days that even interest me all that much, especially in these days of reboots, remakes, and all that horse shit. Final Destination is an exception, with the first and third entries being my personal favorites of the five that were released prior to this. Now after many years following the last installment, much to the dismay of fans of the series, it returns with Final Destination: Bloodlines, which as you can rightly guess, means this is ... a "family film"? Sorta.
Personally, I really enjoyed this entry as it's the perfect, fun and silly "popcorn horror" experience I was looking for. It was nice to go to a horror film that wasn't "elevated"; I just wanted to have FUN and that's exactly what we get. Are there overused and perhaps bad CGI? Ohhh yes. Could the writing have been stronger? Of course! Were there a few cringey choices made here and there? You bet! AND THAT'S WHAT I WENT FOR. AND SO DID YOU! SO STOP taking points away because this isn't The Witch or some other arthouse-style "intelligent horror." The acting is overall good here, including a sweet, haunting and short final performance from horror legend Tony Todd (the film is dedicated to him). The build-up to the kills had me squirming around in my seat, and the kills themselves were clever and to me, quite gruesome. One was especially, ummmmm, a bit "too much"? I can see the argument for that view.
Put your A24 goggles away and enjoy yourself, this was a blast, and I definitely recommend it, and to see it on the big screen. Good times, rock & roll.
