Mata Hari
Strange that of all the films Cannon produced, this is the first one I end up reviewing for my site. Most probably forget this film ever existed, and if they do it's even less likely they know it was part of the Cannon portfolio. I certainly didn't. What had me guessing it was though was Sylvia Kristel's name displayed prominently above the title. Not many, if any besides Cannon, would be doing her that honor. So I'm glad I checked, as it led me to this experience.
Also strange how the film kept my attention, somehow able to stay just interesting enough to make it better than other very similar, dry period dramas. So, it's tough for me to dislike this film, but I also don't like it either as there's not much memorable going on here. From story to acting to script to cinematography, it's just all ends with a rather empty feeling. Even the sex scenes, meant to be one of the film's big draws, were mostly dull.
If you're a Cannon completist though, there's worse films out there for sure, so don't worry - you can get yourself through this, and easily enough.
