For me, Baker's talent lies in bringing attention to large and sadly forgotten segments of Americans, not by exploiting the road blocks they endure, but by humanizing them beyond tired cliches through simple storytelling. His films shine a light on "the American experience" that most have no awareness or understanding of, making them enriching experiences through smart dialogue and excellent casting.
