Sick
This so desperately needed a better director. Or at least a co-director. There were for sure some cool shots here, the casting was strong (it's again nice to see NORMAL people who aren't models and influencers attempting to act), the pacing was quite good, the messaging of personal responsibility (from another perspective) I felt was refreshing; overall it's not a poorly made film by any means.
However there were also terrible decisions, and lots of cliches abound here. The one example I'd share is the one where I gave up on the film, which to be fair was close to the end. But it was one error too many and I just couldn't forgive it anymore. And it's so simple, one that should have been easily caught by anyone paying any sort of attention on set. Without giving anything away, basically the killers have been well established. Their motives established. There's really nothing scary about what is going on more than 2/3 into the plot. But immediately after a slightly pivotal moment in the film's momentum, they go back to trying to make the killer scary - the one we've now met, face to face, and know their motives - by showing their silhouette yet again, looking outside from the inside of the house. And to make it worse they add a (granted, subtler than usual) sound FLOURISH that's meant to assist in scaring the shit out of you. But that time has already passed. How the fuck do they not understand that? Or see it?
Again, don't hate it. It's still entertaining ENOUGH. But it's also frustrating, the unfulfilled potential. Sick, bruh.
