Summer Heat
That title promised it would bring the heat, and yet here I am in the middle of Palm Springs at the start of summer and it's already 115 degrees and yet somehow, this film brought a summer chill instead. Point being, this 80-minute leaflet of a film (and really you can reduce this down further to 75 minutes once the opening and closing credits are removed) feels like the most basic blueprint of a film, but even worse, it doesn't know what it's a blueprint of. All I know is I wanted to see some sexy shit going on here in that sultry summer heat, and even the few "sex" scenes were the least sexy imaginable.
I wouldn't necessarily say this is a bad film. It just doesn't meet any of its goals and there's very little of it that could be classified as satisfying on any level. At the same time, it's somehow harmless and I felt little emotion either way, hence the two-star review. Perhaps with repeated viewings there's room to appreciate it more. If only there was something - ANYTHING - sexy and hot about this film about sex, cheating and murder!
