Thanksgiving

Nothing amazing by any means, but Eli Roth's 'Thanksgiving' definitely delivers even if I've got my own short list of issues with it. For example, the whole whodunit/'Scream'-ish type ending I was not down with at ALL. I wonder how I'd feel if the kills were lame as well. Well luckily I don't need to consider that scenario as although at times the effects (I think practical) could have used a bit of a boost, overall the kills were clever, inventive, and I'd say "pushing the envelope."

I grew up in Plymouth County in my junior and high school years, and Eli did a pretty decent job of getting the South Shore reprezented, a Mass. boy and all. The accents were actually quite solid and the gruff angry portrayal of those "hearty" New Englanders - yeah that tracks. I loved Hanover being the enemy town - something about that town always felt like a big mystery to me.

And even though this took place in the modern day ... the kids listening to OH SHIT by Pharcyde, from the 1992 LP 'Bizarre Ride II The Pharcyde' which was frequently on the car playlist in those days .... it strangely made this a rather nostalgic trip back for me.

If you're into slashers, definitely check this out and support it in the theater. If you're not, this is unlikely to change your mind. But hey, if there's a chance ...
