The Last American Virgin

There's so much I love about his film. I'm in a mood to list, so here we go:

1/ Do you remember the funny woman in The Naked Gun who was taking a driving test with Frank Drebin (Leslie Nielsen) in the back seat? She has a funny role here.

2/ The receptionist from Twin Peaks, played by Kimmy Robertson, has a minor but funny (though not necessarily intentional) role in this.

3/ Menahem Golan and Yoram Globus were the two men who took over Cannon Films in the 1970s and brought it to its legendary status in the 1980s as purveyors of schlock and cheese. Prior to that, they made films in their home country of Israel, including the famous Lemon Popsicle film series. 'The Last American Virgin' was the US remake of the original 'Lemon Popsicle' (1978). Boaz Davidson directed both films.

4/ Excellent 80s soundtrack: Blondie, The Cars, Devo, Journey, The Police.

5/ Unlike most teen sex comedies, this one had drama to it as well, and in a daring choice, the film does NOT have a happy ending. To me, that is extremely refreshing, especially for 1982.

6/ This film is VERY 80s, in that it makes my list of films that ooze the pure time capsule vibes of the era. Other films on that list include Slumber Party Massacre II, Chopping Mall, Vamp, Fraternity Vacation, Into the Night, etc.

So there you go. If you've not seen it, check it out. It's not a classically brilliant film by any means, but its a fun watch with some cool choices, and remarkably notable for Cannon Films overall.
