Weapons
This is the one.

Screened at Regal Cinemas, Rancho Mirage, California. This. This film right here is why we don't need any more god damn sequels, remakes, reboots, re-imaginings of anything EVER FUCKING AGAIN. The fact that corporate Hollywood nearly dumped this onto Netflix without giving it a theatrical run is exactly what is wrong with them, which is having nothing but profits as their drive for working in the industry, instead of letting film thrive as the art is is, when done right. And that is what we have here.
From the writer and director of the outstanding Barbarian comes Weapons, which dropped its original teaser back in April, conveniently provided for your viewing below. When I first saw it, I right away felt it was something I wanted to know NOTHING else about it until seeing the film itself. It's that good a teaser, and it looked that good a film. I unfortunately did see the first full trailer weeks later, as it showed before a film I can't recall right now on another trip to the multiplex, but luckily with that deteriorating memory I forgot everything I saw. All I did remember was thinking "oooOOO what's this? it looks good" only for it to say WEAPONS at the trailer's conclusion. GOD DAMN IT! But while the resounding sentiment is correct in my view, to avoid EVERYTHING and just go see it as blind as possible, I can safely say if you've not seen the quick teaser already, you are safe, and it will likely get you hyped in all the right ways, convincing you to head to your local cinema ASAP.
I don't even want to explain why seeing the teaser is safe, because even that bit of info could potentially give too much away. But I'll just explain what kind of movie you're in for: It's a horror. It's a thriller. It's a comedy. It's a mystery. It delivers in every way the promise of what original filmmaking is meant to deliver. It lures you in and doesn't let go. There's peaks and valleys; even its imperfections somehow add to it and makes it even better. I know, makes no sense, right? It's a true "popcorn movie" in every way, from laughs to scares, to structure to the end credit scrawl to the score and sound design. In the truest sense, Weapons is outstanding, and so far I'd say it's at the top of my best of 2025. I honestly can not understand, if you're looking for an original "popcorn" horror film that is FUN, CREEPY and SPOOKY, what else you would ask for. This film DELIVERS. Even with my minimal expectations, Weapons exceeded any and all hopes. I can't wait to see it again, but I'm going to give it the space it deserves and wait for its physical media release (so I guess in a couple weeks? But I digress). Run, do not walk. This is what you've been waiting for.
Also, though I'm almost 50, for the first time ever I was mistaken for a senior citizen. Thanks, Denisse. 🤣
