White Noise

It's a bit strange I suppose for a film whose first half didn't feel completely grounded or focused, to then go off track the second half, but that's how it is in my view. Much of the film still made up for that initial lack of focus, with strong performances from both Driver and Gerwig, good pacing, excellent production design - especially at the A&P, and it really felt like the story was headed somewhere significant and meaningful. In reality, I guess it did - sort of? It just felt much like a different film for the majority of the second half, until the end credits sequence which breathed life back into this thing. Reminiscent of the end credits for David Lynch's 'Inland Empire,' in that it was quite unexpected, the final sequence was sort of delightfully irreverant.

It's hard for me to put this film down, as there's a LOT of good stuff going on here and for that I would recommend it. And parts that I liked, I really liked and in my view shouldn't go unseen unnoticed. But be prepared for potential letdown. Or maybe you'll love it, and this review is letting YOU down.

Oh! And Dean from Luna has a quick cameo which is a lovely surprise.

"What is Luna?"

Siiiigh.
